They now have 6 American and 5 European Bison.

The female American bison calf, Cleo, was born on March 29.

The female European bison, Tiras, was born on Jan. 11

The youngest is Thomas, a male European bison born on April 11.

They are focusing on breeding more and avoiding inbreeding

Three bison calves have been born at Prigen Safari Park (TSP) in Pasuruan, East Java. With the calves, the park now has six American bison and five European bison.

“Physically, American and European bison cannot be differentiated because they have the same blackish brown skin and fur color. However European bison are smaller than their American counterparts, and European bison have longer horns,” Gilang, a TSP vet, told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.

The female American bison calf, Cleo, was born on March 29. The female European bison, Tiras, was born on Jan. 11 and the youngest is Thomas, a male European bison born on April 11.

“They are now following the adult bison to learn social life with the herd,” Gilang said.

Bison are the biggest land animals in America and Europe. In America, bison live in the river valleys and prairies. European bison live in the forests and bushy lands.

Biologically, bison are still closely related to cows. They are horned mammals with that can live up to 20 years.

“Right now in Indonesia, TSP is focusing on breeding more bison, but we are preventing inbreeding,” Gilang said.
